PROFILE OF CLR MATHEDI ASNATH MOLEKWA
Clr Mathedi Asnath Molekwa was born in 1967 February 15th at Mphebatho (Wynanskraal).She attended her primary school at Tlhaloganyo Primary School and then preceded to Maubane Middle school. She completed her high school at Nchaupe high School. She studied Local Government Management and Administration with the University of South Africa (UNISA).She also studied Project Planning and management. She is currently enrolled with the University of Pretoria, studying BA in Public Administration.

POLITICAL BACKROUND
Molekwa has been a member of NUMSA during the 1980s whilst she was working in NISSAN Rosslyn. She joined in 1989 and she also served the ANC for more than 20 years. She was a member of the ANC team that assisted the ANC in building structures especially in Moretele under the leadership of the late Cde Molefe Levy Makinta,Cde William Modiba and Cde Steve Moatshe and many more during the 1990s.She served the ANC youth league in the 1990s until she was 35years old. She was elected the first regional secretary of the ANC Woman’s league in the Eastern Region for 3 consecutive terms.
She was part of the coordinating structure during the amalgamation of the Eastern Region, Rustenburg,Madikwe and Mankwe Regions. She was also a member of the Municipal Facilitating Commitee,a committee that was tasked to deal with the amalgamation of municipalities and renaming of those municipalities. In 1994 she was appointed by United Nations to conduct Local Government workshops to the communities. She was appointed as a party agent of the ANC during the 1994 elections and in 1995 she was appointed a coordinator during the first Local Government elections registration.
She was elected a councillor in 1995-2000 in the former Eastern District Council and was the Chief Whip of the ANC Party caucus. She participated in the process of the Establishment of NOWELOGA (North West Local Government Association) today is called SALGA.She was also appointed as chairperson of infrastructure Portfolio from 1996-2000 in the Eastern District Council. In preparation for the first Local Government Elections she was a member of Moretele negotiation forum
During the 2000 elections she was re-elected as a councillor in Moretele Local Municipality and then deployed as EXCO member responsible for LED. Agriculture and Tourism. She served as a member and chairperson of Moretele District Welfare forum from 1998 to 2003.She was appointed to serve on the Advisory board of the department of Agriculture from 2003 -2007.

In 2004 during the ANC Regional conference of Bojanala, She was elected the deputy Secretary of the ANC in the region.
In 2006 Molekwa was re-elected as councillor of Moretele Local Municipality and then deployed as a Mayor of Moretele local Municipality. She was also elected as a deputy chairperson of SALGA North West. In 2006 she was re-elected as a deputy secretary of the ANC in Bojanala Region.

During the 2008 North West ANC provincial conference in Sun City she was elected as a member of the provincial executive committee of the ANC and was appointed as a chairperson of the Social Transformation Committee and also participated in the national sub -committee. She was also elected as a PEC member of the ANC Women’s league.
In 2011 during the North West Provincial conference of the ANC she was re –elected as a PEC member of the ANC and in the first PEC sitting she was elected a member of the Provincial working committee and she was appointed as a chairperson of the Economic Transformation Sub Commitee.During the 2011 Local Government elections she was re- elected as a councillor and deployed at BPDM as a Chief whip.

THE OFFICE OF THE CHIEFWHIP
The Office of the Chief Whip was established to create synergy and to maintain discipline among Councillors from various Political Parties. The Role of the Chief Whip of Council covers both the political and administrative domains of Council with emphasis on the political aspect.
The Chief Whip has to ensure that relationship between political parties is constructive and focused on key issues that aimed at improving service delivery and the lives of the residents in Bojanala said Molekwa.
The Chief Whip further acts as a chairperson of Caucus Political Management which is the Speaker, The Executive Mayor and REC and PEC deployed in the district municipality. The Chief Whip ensures that there is equitable representation in Committees of Council. My job as the chief whip in the District is to give feedback to the ANC concerning how local government is functioning in terms of the party’s election manifesto. It is also to make sure that the council runs smoothly as per the requirements of local government laws. The chief Whip also ensures that councillors attend to their duties, assists in deploying councillors to various committees and ensures all councillors are accountable. She maintains discipline among councillors.The Chief Whip of Council also serves as the Chief Whip of the ruling party and her responsibilities include the management of the Whippery of the ANC. The role of the Whippery is to manage the study groups and ensure that a member of the party speaks in one voice. The chief whip also serves as a link between the ruling party and its councillors

Molekwa further said the Chief Whip is the strategist of the party at the council. She further coordinates the District Chief whips Forum and Chair its meetings.
